Welcome to the blog! My name is Micah Keall-Grant and I am an investor with a goal of achieving financial freedom. My main focus is on property investment (as this is also my job!) however I also invest in individual shares, index funds and ETFs, amongst other things. This blog is about sharing my experiences and knowledge while also continuing to learn more about investment myself!

My job, background and experience: 

 I am a Registered QLD Property Buyer’s Agent and an expert in the Brisbane property market. I come from an engineering background having completed a Bachelors (Hons) and Masters in Engineering at Canterbury University in New Zealand and working professionally on various projects throughout Australia, USA and Africa.

I developed a strong interest in Australian residential property through substantial research and reading and then began investing a number of years ago, developing a keen eye for good quality investment properties, and learning lots along the way!

With strong negotiation skills, detailed suburb and pricing knowledge and thorough research and analysis of each individual property deal, I am able to provide my clients with a premium level of service, helping to build their own property portfolios with comfort and confidence.

As a currently active property investor with a multiple property portfolio, I have a good understanding of the purchasing process that my clients go through and I am always able to provide sound advice based on my experiences (both personal and professional) in the Brisbane market. This is proven by my strong track record of endorsements and recommendations.

I am registered with the Queensland Office of Fair Trading and a member of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ).

Why You Should Never Buy Lotto Tickets!

A tempting way for many people to try and get rich is to buy a lotto ticket each week, hoping to strike a lucky jackpot and catapult themselves to financial freedom. This is a poor approach and there is a much better alternative with which you can guarantee a win!  The chances of  winning lotto in Australia are 1 in 29 million!! (averaged across the top 5 weekly lotteries). Needless to say this is highly unlikely…. Let’s assume a 25 year old decides to buy a lotto ticket every week until they retire at 65. If they spent $20 a week, after 40 years they will have spent $41,600 in total (not taking inflation into account).  Despite buying over 2,000 tickets in this time, their chances of winning anything significant are still incredibly small.  As an alternative, let’s assume they invest $20 per week in a low-fee index fund or dividend paying share portfolio, returning 7% per annum (compounded monthly).  After 40 years, their shares would be worth $22...
